Prevent accidents, protect health — build a safer workplace

This unit provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the causes and consequences of workplace accidents, injuries, and health-related issues. It equips supervisors, team leaders, and managers with the knowledge to identify risks, investigate incidents, and implement strategies to prevent reoccurrence.

The course focuses on building a proactive health and safety culture by ensuring learners understand not just the legal requirements, but also the practical measures required to safeguard staff and reduce workplace harm.


Course Structure

  • Duration: 1 day (can be delivered as a standalone unit or as part of Level 3 Health & Safety training)

  • Delivery: Classroom or virtual learning

  • Level: RQF Level 3 (single accredited unit, Highfield framework)


Course Content

Learners will cover:

  • Common types and causes of workplace accidents and injuries

  • The short- and long-term effects of work-related ill health

  • Employer and employee responsibilities under health & safety law

  • Reporting requirements (RIDDOR and workplace procedures)

  • Accident investigation and root cause analysis

  • Preventative strategies: risk assessment, training, and safe systems of work

  • Promoting a positive health and safety culture


Assessment

  • Written questions or multiple-choice assessment (depending on awarding body option)

  • Short scenario-based tasks


Certification

On completion, learners will receive a Certificate of Unit Achievement in Accidents, Injuries and Work-related Health (Level 3), which can be used towards the full Highfield Level 3 Health & Safety qualification if desired.
