This qualification is designed for individuals who work with or care for infants and children, including early years staff, teachers, childcare professionals, and parents. It equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills to respond confidently and effectively to a range of paediatric first aid situations.

The course meets Ofsted and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements and is suitable for those working in schools, nurseries, and childcare settings.


Course Structure

  • Duration: 2 days (12 hours total learning)

  • Delivery: Classroom-based with practical demonstrations and assessments

  • Accreditation: Highfield (or equivalent awarding body)


Course Content

Learners will cover:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider

  • Assessing an emergency situation safely

  • CPR and safe use of an AED (infant and child)

  • Recovery position for infants and children

  • Managing choking, bleeding, and shock

  • Treating minor injuries, burns, scalds, and fractures

  • Recognising and responding to seizures, asthma, meningitis, and anaphylaxis

  • Recording and reporting incidents in line with workplace procedures


Assessment

  • Practical demonstrations of first aid skills

  • Multiple-choice knowledge assessment


Certification

Learners will receive a Paediatric First Aid Certificate valid for 3 years, recognised by Ofsted and EYFS.
